The Lindisfarne Gospels Visit

I must admit I was rather excited at the prospect of actually seeing the Lindisfarne Gospels although a little unsure as to what to expect. I had arranged to go with my lovely friend, Alice. We set off for the Durham Park and Ride at 11ish, it almost felt like a school trip! Life always looks so much better when the sun is shining too.

Park and Ride Bus!
Having arrived at the Park and Ride and purchased parking and bus ticket at a very reasonable £2 we found ourselves in the centre of Durham and meandered our way up the beautiful streets to the Cathedral and Palace Green. We had some time to kill before our 'time slot' for the exhibition so stopped for a light bite at the cafĂ© on the green, not very gluten free friendly I must say but the sun was shining so it didn't matter (she concedes grudgingly).

It certainly was a beautiful setting and before long it was time to view the exhibition. The staff were extremely welcoming and friendly which is always a plus these days, so thank you for that. I'm not going to say too much about the exhibition except it was well worth the visit. Personally it was one of those special moments you have in life which lift you and move you intensely, I found myself tearful. I wasn't really expecting that. I'm so glad I went and if anything hope that anyone reading this may think it worth a visit.

I don't understand the politics of this world but I do feel these Gospels belong to the people of the North East and should be back where they were created - Holy Island.

The early bird...

Up early this morning to add the final touches ...

Am off to Durham today to see the Lindisfarne Gospels with Alice. Must say I'm quite excited and looking forward to a bit of inspiration!

'Thursday Afternoon'

This one was inspired by the sparrows that visit my window bird feeder, I could watch them for ages.

'Thursday Afternoon'
Having just finished my Lindisfarne collage I thought I would try and introduce some of the freedom I experienced from this medium into my painting. I'm quite happy with the result so far with a little more tweaking to do. So am looking forward to further experimentations!
