Meanwhile, back on planet earth I have finally finished my painting of Kilmartin. Having reworked it I still wasn't happy with the sky so have knocked it back. I think it works much better spatially.

Kilmartin

With this completed, work has begun from sketches and photographs of my week in New Quay last year. I have to say it was rather a wet week! Nonetheless we did have a few breaks and the scenery was fab. We were fortunate to see dolphins too, which was  a beautiful experience. Anyway so I thought I'd blog the stages I go through in my latest piece so here goes...

This painting has taken eons as I had to put it away because it just wasn't working. I struggle with tone and colour but will get there eventually. Beats worrying about the mortgage anyway!

We spent a week on the West coast of Scotland and have to say it was a beautiful peaceful time in which to relax and listen to what is important. This is Kilmartin, a small village within an area with one of the richest concentrations of prehistoric monuments and historical sites in Scotland. It contains over 350 monuments within a 6 mile radius. Amazing.

Ooh dear have been neglecting my blog! Must be because I've been busy busy busy. So where to start...

Two pieces entered for the Durham County Council Spring Open Art  Exhibition which is to be held at The Bowes Museum from 2nd March - 7th April, so fingers crossed on that front.

But probably the highlight of the week was the preview for NeST's new exhibition 'Celebrate' which runs until the end of March. This took place on Sunday afternoon and was, in my opinion, a resounding success. It was lovely to see so many turn out for the event, which included wine and delicious nibbles (thank you Catherine).

So here is a selection of snaps from the afternoon

I shall leave you with the remark some chap made about my work... 'pallid'.
Well I didn't like the sound of that did I? So I had to look it up and I didn't like the sound of it even more.
From the Collins Dictionary  1. lacking colour or brightness; wan  2. lacking vigour;vapid.
Well how rude!
Personally I prefer something along the lines of... subtle nuances of light and colour mingle to create form ;D
