Sketchbook

I thought I'd share a few scribbles, thoughts and research from my sketchpads with regards to the 1000 Creations - Lindisfarne Gospels exhibition. At first I wasn't quite sure how to approach this project but decided to use it as a means to examine and understand my own faith. I'm not sure where this will take me in terms of creating but hopefully it will be an interesting journey!

My starting point was the system of Canon Tables within the book. These are a concordance device showing which passages are shared in which Gospels. So I highlighted the word concordance because I liked the sound of it and came upon such words as agreement, which led to harmony and then to unity.

The way in which the Canon Tables are presented mirrors the chancel arch of a church which in turn represents that part of the Church which is made up of those who have passed through death to the state beyond. Perhaps look into this further.

I thought it might be interesting to somehow use this system of notation to compare and explore the major religions/faiths of the world. My underlying theme perhaps being unity or oneness.

Not sure how this is all going to come together but I do like a challenge!
